Duty, be amended to reflect he was awarded the Global War on
Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOT-E).
APPLICANT CONTENDS THAT:

Operation IRAQI FREEDOM at some point between the award
performance period of through .
On 8 Jun 08, the applicant was furnished an honorable discharge
and was credited with four years of active service.
The remaining relevant facts pertaining to this application are
described in the memorandum prepared by the Air Force office of
primary responsibility (OPR), which are included at Exhibit C.
AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
AFPC/DPSID recommends relief be granted, indicating there is
evidence of an error or injustice. The GWOT-E was established
by Executive Order 13289 and can be awarded for deployments of
30 consecutive of 60 nonconsecutive days to specific geographic
areas of eligibility in support of the Global War of Terrorism.
A thorough review of the applicant's official military personnel
record did not reveal documentation giving specific dates of a
qualifying deployment to verify the applicant was in the area of
eligibility for award of the GWOT-E. According to information
from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) the
applicant performed foreign service from to at ,
which is not a qualifying deployment. However, the applicant's
AF Form 910, rendered for the period through , states he
was deployed to , but does not give specific dates of
deployment. Additionally, the applicant was awarded the Air
Force Achievement Medal, which indicates that he deployed in
support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, but gives no specific dates
or location. Although no specific dates or locations can be
determined, it appears more likely than not that between and
the applicant was in A , not , rendering him eligible for
award of the GWOT-E.
A complete copy of the AFPC/DPSID evaluation is at Exhibit C.
APPLICANT'S REVIEW OF AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
A copy of the Air Force evaluation was forwarded to the
applicant on 28 Jul 14 for review and comment within 30 days
(Exhibit D). As of this date, no response has been received by
this office.
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
1. The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by
existing law or regulations.
2. The application was not timely filed; however, it is in the
interest of justice to excuse the failure to timely file.
3. Sufficient relevant evidence has been presented to
demonstrate the existence of an error or injustice. We took
notice of the applicants complete submission in judging the
merits of the case and agree with the opinion and recommendation
of the Air Force office of primary responsibility and adopt its
rationale for our determination that the applicant has been the
victim of an error or injustice. Therefore, we recommend the
applicants records be corrected as indicated below.
